Magnet therapy In regard To Treating Back Aches

magnetsResearch carried on therapeutic magnetic devices used to relieve aches and pain in the body showed no substantiate proof of their effectiveness. Using these devices to self medicate in conditions such as back aches could pose potential problems to underlying health issues. These devices are costly to patients especially when the benefits and side effects have not been conclusively proven.

The report says that money which is spent on therapies and devices such as those in treating back aches could be used to seek treatment on evidence based medicine. The problem is that manufacturers and advertisers make claims on these devices that are untrue and unsupported by data. This is a great concern in the field where there are unsupported claims that magnet devices can also be effective in treating cancer and increasing longevity; all which are not proven.

It has been difficult to prove the effectiveness of devices such as Back Wraps used for back aches. Controlled experiments that would have conclusively shown the worth of these devices were suspect as it was difficult to hide the presence of the magnet to those involved.

In an experiment conducted to prove the effectiveness of magnets in treating wrist condition, there was no significant difference in the group that used real magnets and the control group. The recovery rate was similar. Systematic assessment carried out on similar devices used in back aches concluded that there was no compelling evidence as to the effectiveness of magnets in reducing pain.
