Simple Way To Never Have A Lifting Back Injury

lift-correctMany people incur back injuries through lifting objects, sometimes because they are simply too heavy. But most of the time we know our own limits and almost instinctively know when something “looks” to heavy.

Many back problems occur not because the object is too heavy but rather because of the way it was lifted.

Have you ever seen one of those huge power-lifters at the Olympics, some guy lifting some outrageous amount of weight on a bending bar. They all do the same thing before they lift; they squat down very close to the bar.

In this way they can get their hands easily underneath the bar and get a good grip. But here is the important part; just before they lift they look up to the sky, as if they are looking for god to help them.

This is the trick, bending their heads back and keeping it there as they lift has the effect of keeping their back straight and inline as they lift, ensuring that it is their legs not their backs that take the strain.

If they tried to lift those huge weights with their back it would snap. It is the legs that are doing the lifting.

To avoid damaging your back always look up before you lift and keep looking up until you have completed the lift. This makes sure your legs do the lifting and not your back, avoiding back injury.
