Women’s computer habits causing chronic back pain

spineMany middle-aged women living in the UK experience chronic back pain.  A new study has helped to pinpoint the cause as long hours spent hunched over a desk, but the afflicted don’t necessarily suffer because of work related duties.

It is reported that a high percentage of women suffering chronic severe back pain experience the discomfort due to long stretches at their computers searching social networking sites.  More than 1000 women were studied for the report.

It was tallied that as many as 78 per cent of the women experienced back pain because of long hours at a desk working or on the Internet at home.  Around 20 per cent admitted to suffering a backache every day and another 30 per cent said that they experienced severe back pain every couple of days.

Nearly 44 per cent of the women said that they had trouble walking due to their back pain and another 15 per cent said that they were no longer able to have a social life or go out to work.

Other studies have proved that, amongst 50 year olds, back pain is second in prevalence only to headache pain.
