Exercise Very Effective For Chronic Lower Back And Neck Pain

back-painIn a recent survey of patients with chronic neck or lower back pain, it was found that although exercising is amongst the only successful therapies to help alleviate pain, only about 50 percent of these were prescribed exercises.

In the past ten years research has confirmed that the best therapy for chronic neck and low back pain is indeed exercising, although out of 700 patients suffering from this problem, only 14.4 % were given exercising remedies by their doctors.

Patients who were examined by chiropractors or physical therapists stood a greater chance of being treated with exercises; however it is not clear what kind of exercises are being given and the their regularity or duration.

The results of the research showed that although all patients with chronic neck or back pain consulted their doctors, only 48% of these patients were given exercising therapies, and only one out of seven had been told about exercising at all.

In comparison, more than half of the patients consulting physical therapists were given exercising therapies, while chiropractors were prescribing them to only 33.1% of their patients.

The research went on to evaluate how many of the patients consulting a doctor who did not suggest exercising therapy, actually did visit a physical therapist or chiropractor. It was found that eventually 9.7 % finally went to consult a chiropractor, while 26.3% saw a therapist.
