Back pain now the third most popular reason for surgery

120px-Nonsurgical_spinal_decompression_3Back pain is the fifth most common reason that people end up in hospital and also the third most popular reason for surgery, but now there is a new type of therapy that has proven to be an alternative to surgery for those who have struggled with back pain for years: spinal decompression therapy.

The new therapy has a 90% success rate for treating those that are diagnosed with either disc degeneration or a herniation. Many people are choosing to have it done due to the fact that it is much less invasive and of course does not have a recovery time associated with it, making it a much easier choice.

Spinal decompression therapy takes place over six weeks and involves the use of a large pulley machine that stretches the ligaments in the back to help relieve the pressure on the cervical spine and lumbar. While the theory has been out there for centuries, it is only in the last decade that computers have come far enough to where the decompression force can be carefully controlled.

According to US doctor Dr. Jum Zuk of Cape Coral Florida, the treatment can be potentially helpful for many patients by alleviating their back pain and saving them money on high priced surgery. It is also a great solution for the elderly who are suffering from back pain for which surgery is not always a viable option due to health complications.

In the mean time, proper workouts, correct posture, and supportive shoes can all help prevent and reduce back pain for most people.
