Imaging Techniques For Chronic Back Pain

back-pain11Pfizer Limited and King’s College Hospital, London have come together in collaboration, to conduct a scientific research on treatment of chronic pain, which was earlier totally in dark.

Although the frequency of chronic pain is very high (one in every four persons), there is still lack of medical knowledge and reliable data for its treatment.

Research is being carried out by the Pain Clinical Research Hub at King’s, using the latest imaging techniques, to take a peep into human brain and his nervous system when in pain, with the objective to find out new solutions to measure the intensity of pain, and also to set up an organized series of tests and treatments to make it a more systematic procedure.

The easiest symptom which by far, has caused a considerable deterioration on one’s health and lives is long-term pain. This could be worsened if one is suffering from chronic pain, as this could lead to partial or complete disability.

This research has been using the latest innovations in the field of medical technology, including electrophysiological studies, quantitative sensory testing, electroencephalography, and many cutting-edge imaging techniques, as opposed to the current way of diagnosis involving only the patient and his impressions of pain.

This research is a giant step ahead in the study of pain, and its various triggering points, its feeling, and its impact on the patient and his family.

The research will greatly benefit all of us, leading to better prevention of pain, better treatment and control of pain. It shall serve as a boon for those who have been suffering from constant unremitting pain since long.
