Stem cell research into spinal cord damage.

Stem cell research into spinal cord damage. As stem cell research continues to progress, new results from Oxford University seem to suggest that one skin cell may be able to fight against many different conditions including some serious conditions like spinal cord damage.

The team from the University announced a quick overview of their findings of the skin cells that when manipulated are referred to as induced pluripotent stem cells.  The same cells are those that are thought to die off when neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease exist.

There has been a great deal of research into how embryonic stem cells develop and prosper within the body with a close look at how skin tissue stem cells develop.  However, the moral arguments about the use of stem cells in research has been a great deterrent to further research of the matter which has been hindered greatly by moral arguments.

Skin cells are already used to help burn victims, but the new research is focused on how they may help treat other conditions due to their regenerative nature that makes it possible to harvest them from a simple biopsy reducing the chance of rejection since they are harvested from the patient’s own body.
