Back pain smart cushioning system

Sitting in at an office job or any other job has long been linked to back pain as the body is not constructed to be sedentary.  Those who suffer from an illness that keeps them bed ridden have also suffered from back pain and bed sores at the same time due to the fact that the body is not made to be still.  However, the new smart cushioning system is a new product that helps alleviate the harm that sitting and lying for long periods of time does to the body as it has an integrated sensor built into the system that helps to equalize the amount of pressure that is felt on the body.

Researcher for the Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation Martin Woitag in Germany stated that every person has a different build that has to be accounted for in order to find the amount of compressive loads that the body can take.  Therefore, the sensor mat that makes up smart cushioning was created that is made out of regular foam, but has conductive threads run throughout it to automatically detect how a certain person is lying or sitting.

The pad then will equalize the pressure on the body that is felt at what it deems as endangered points with one hundred points throughout the seat area fitted with actuators to help minimize pressure on the body.  For instance, if the pad feels that there is too much pressure on the right rear of the body while sitting then air will release from the cushion in this area to help make up for the problem.  There are other mats on the market that do this, but the new smart cushion system is thought to be considerably less expensive and affordable to the general public instead of just the medical system.
