Can a good mattress be the cure for some back pain?

tempNo one can deny the restorative benefits of a good night’s sleep, but there is still a multitude of people who can’t remember when they had one. Of course, many factors are involved, including all sorts of external disturbances and respiratory ailments, but if the problem is related to physical aches and pains, specifically back pain, a solution can be as easy as getting a new mattress. The mattress of choice, recommended by physicians for years, is memory foam.

This remarkable substance was developed by NASA for the comfort and protection of astronauts in severe g-forces, and has since been made commercially available from a number of manufacturers. The original memory foam mattress came from a Swedish company called Tempur-Pedic, and was so well received that many other companies began developing their own memory foam for various uses.

Basically, memory foam gets its name from its ability to conform to an individual’s body shape and all its lumps, bumps and curves while still supporting each specific area, like the small of the back. It is malleable to pressure from protruding angles of the body, but its ”visco-elastic” nature enables the foam to spring back to its original shape when pressure is removed.

There are several very informative sites on the Internet that compare prices and quality of the various brands. Memory foam may be the ideal sleep enhancement for you, but note that all of the reputable sites urge you to check with your doctor first if physical discomfort is keeping you awake.
