Local Anaesthesia For Back Pain Relief

back-pain12Researchers have claimed that there are various cases where providing local anaesthesia and numbing the local area is at times the best option for treating pain and alleviating any risk or procedures associated with it.

Although this line of treatment is still in controversies, a study was performed where 20 patients, were suffering from allodynia (pain where even the slightest of touch can cause extreme pain), were injected to figure out the outcome.

They were first injected with a diagnosis injection to figure out if there is any risk involved in continuing the procedure.

If the diagnosis came along positive, a series of injections were injected into the sympathetic nerves running along the front side of the spinal cord.

There were around half of the population who responded positively, and were chosen for further stages. The rest, who just showed an improvement in the initial study were assumed to possess Sympathetically Maintained Pain (SMP), while the rest were claimed to be “Sympathetically Independent Pain (SIP)”.

Dr. Craig, a lead researcher claims that this line of treatment could involve lesser risk and a significant benefit in the economy.

Although this research was carried out in a highly controlled environment, and not controlled by any placebo, it surely supports the use of the sympathetic block and strongly favours this procedure in patients suffering from allodynia.
