Using Ice Massage in Back Pain

using-ice-massage-in-back-painIce massage is an effective form of therapy to relieve the back of any pain and aches. It is relatively easy to administer as you only need a good amount of ice wrapped in a permeable piece of cloth. It is relatively cheap compared to other forms of massages available in the market and it is fast and quick to administer.

Use ice massage on any form of muscular sprain. It is a popular form of massage therapy used in the sport arena to relieve aches and pains obtained during sporting activities. The best method of performing the massage is wrapping the ice in a piece of permeable clothe.

Place it directly on the affected spot to ease the pain. The ice works by contracting blood vessels as a result of the cold stimulus, this cause a slow rate of circulation in the area. When the cold stimulus is removed, blood vessels dilate which brings in a large flow of blood carrying vital nutrients sufficient for healing the muscles.

When using ice massage in treating arthritis, paralysis, Raynaud’s disease, and patients with altered sensation, ice wrapped in permeable clothing should be used.

Do not place ice directly on the skin surface. Place the wrapped ice gently but firmly on affected areas. The session should extend to a maximum of fifteen to twenty minutes. This is a safety precaution to ensure the patient does not suffer from ice burns.
