Duloxetine Is effective Back Pain Drug

back-pain8Research reports confirm that Duloxetine is effective in treating Chronic Low Back-Pain (CLBP)

A research conducted by the Lilly Research Laboratories in Indianapolis established that Duloxetine was more effective than Placebo when treating chronic low-back pain. It appeared to minimize back pain considerably and caused fewer side effects as opposed to Placebo.

Duloxetine is used to treat critical depressive complaints, diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia and nervousness in general.

The test was carried out on 236 patients who had been suffering from painful backaches for over six months. These patients, who did not suffer from any depressive complaints, were regularly treated with Duloxetine once a day, while another group took Placebo.

After a period of 13 weeks the patients who were taking Duloxetine claimed that their backaches had greatly improved as well as their Patient’s Global Impressions-Improvement, compared to the other group, taking Placebo.

However 5 to 10 percent of the patients taking Duloxetine complained they were suffering from fatigue, nausea and hyperhdrosis, and consequently abandoned the test.

The remaining patients’ pain improved considerably after just one week’s treatment and tests confirmed that this was due to the Duloxetine effect as an analgesic and not on its action on symptoms of depression or anxiety.
