Causes Of Herniated Discs

The causes of pain associated with lower back, leg, or weakness in the lower extremity muscles can be attributed to a herniated disc. This is a condition where the cushion found between the spinal vertebras is pushed outside its location.

When spinal discs lose elasticity they become more susceptible to injuries. As disks become less elastic, they can rapture; a small portion of the disc Herniated Discspushes outside its normal boundary resulting to a condition known as herniated disc. This can result to compressing the spinal cord and nerves around that portion.

Herniated discs can be caused by accidental falls, or repetitive strain on the spine. This usually leads to diminished space for nerves which results in irritation of the nerves. A common result of this condition is abnormal passing of signals or signals are not communicated at all.

Diagnosis of the problem can be carried out using MRI used together examination findings. Treatment of herniated discs depends on symptoms exhibited by the patient, the results of a physical exanimation, X-ray and MRI results. Other considerations used in treatment of herniated discs include symptoms experienced by the patient, age of the patient, how active the patient is and if there are symptoms showing presence of worsening condition.

Conservative treatments are first employed to take care of the problem. The intensity of the treatment usually increases with increase of symptoms exhibited by the condition.
