Causes Of Lower Back Pain

backacheA simple low backache
Rated as the most common kind of backache, 19 out of 20 cases have been reported to have been suffering from it. It simply means that there is no specific underlying cause of the ache.
It is mostly due to a ligament or muscle sprain. Less commonly, it happens due to a minor deformity of the supporting disc between two vertebrae. These causes are however, impossible to zero upon as the exact cause.
Occasionally, you may get a sudden burst of low back pain when you attempt lifting a heavy object or perform an awkward twist or movement. At times, you simply wake up with this ache.
This pain can however range from being simply mild to extremely painful. It sometimes also spreads itself to the things or one’s buttocks as well. The most common treatment is by lying down and taking rest. Coughing, sneezing or any movement can simply aggravate the pain
Such lower back aches have a tendency to improve themselves over a week’s time. In almost 90 percent of the cases, either the pain totally vanishes, or is very negligible in a period of a month or two. However, it is very likely that the patient will suffer from repeated bouts of such pain occasionally in future. In very rare cases, the pain continues to persist even for several months, making it chronic in nature.
Nerve Root Backache
This is the rarest of all back aches. It occurs when a nerve or a vein originating from a region inside the spinal cord has been pressed or irritated. You will experience a sharp pain all through the route of the nerve.
Hence, this pain will occasionally flow downwards to your thighs, or even your calves, or the base of your feet. The pain is at its peak when it reaches this down. As an example, Sciatica is a kind of such a pain where the leg’s main nerve, called the Sciatic nerve has been touched or irritated or moved.
This kind of pain also varies in intensity from being extremely mild to extremely unbearable. In some cases, the patient also suffers from weakness or numbness in areas like buttocks, or his legs or feet. Similar to low back pain, this pain can also be relieved greatly by simply resting by lying down and avoiding any movement or sneezing or coughing.
It usually happens due to some pressure exerted on it by a sprain in some ligament or muscle. Another popular cause of such a pain is “slipped disc”. Though the name is slightly misleading, what happens in here is that the inner part of the disc pops out due to some weakness in the outer firmer part of the disc. Due to this popping out, it sometimes presses the spinal cord nerve, causing the nerve root pain.
