Good posture and back pain

aMaintaining a good posture may seem an obvious recommendation to those who suffer with frequent back pain, but many people who report these symptoms are still failing to adjust their behaviour.

Osteopath Adam Dallison, who has invented his own aid for improving posture and easing back pain, says that even simple changes such as not slumping at your desk or on the sofa while watching TV can do wonders in preventing back injuries.

Dallison went on to explain that slouching forces muscles to take over the job normally done by ligaments, putting a strain on the lower back and causing many of the injuries he sees in his clinic.

Even patients who already have trouble with back pain can give themselves a good chance of avoiding further problems by sitting, standing and walking correctly.

Unfortunately, having a good posture will not fix all back problems and those with more serious injuries will still need to consult medical experts for help. Whether this is your GP for prescription painkillers or an osteopath trained in spinal manipulation probably depends on the severity of the pain and how much it is affecting your quality of life.
