The condition can be life threatening if it is associated with conditions such as tumors and aortic aneurysms. The cause of low back pain vary and might include; prolapsed discs compressing nerves, ligament damage, joint inflammation between bones of the vertebral bodies, arthritis, degeneration of vertebral bodies which lead to nerve compression, etc. The actual cause of lower back pain can be diagnosed by use of MRI or X-rays.

When lower back pain is a result of laxity in ligaments, injection treatment with sclerosant solution at damaged edges causes scarring and strengthening of ligaments which helps to ease pain. The injection can be taken over time if they bring improvement to the condition. For long term management of pain, injections are taken as recommended by the physician.
