PosturePlast and back pain

aEven though back pain is one of the most common medical problems, many people continue to suffer in silence even though there are lots of things they can try to relieve the symptoms and prevent further injury.

The inventor of back pain aid PosturePlast, registered osteopath Adam Dallison, is urging anyone suffering with back pain to seek help before the condition becomes unmanageable. Start by visiting your GP who can prescribe painkillers in the short-term to help you get on with your life, while also referring you to a specialist or a physiotherapist for more long-term treatment.

Some people prefer not to have wait for treatment on the NHS, in which case there are thousands of private osteopaths and physiotherapists who will provide assessments and treatments almost immediately – although you will have to pay for these sessions.

Dallison added that while physiotherapists can suggest exercise regimes to ease back pain and strengthen the muscles so further problems don’t develop, it is only chiropractors and osteopaths who are trained to manipulate the spine.

There is a wealth of information on the internet about back pain, but you should always make sure you only follow advice from a reputable source. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has its own website with the latest advice on treatment options for a number of conditions.

The most recent research suggests that those with back pain should avoid heat packs and electronic TENS machines, and that taking yourself to bed is the worst thing you can do. Try to keep moving instead, as this will speed up your recovery.
