Spinal cord Microscopic Anatomy

Spinal cord Microscopic AnatomyIn the spinal cord one can also find certain types of cells that serve as support for ependymal cells.  Elongated cells have two extensions, which emits into the sulcus anterior or posterior half ependymal cone.

We also found neuroglicas cells, identical to the ependymal origin, only without their primitive extensions. They are found scattered in the gray matter and in the white.
Gray matter
Dorsal horn: The dorsal horn receives axons of dorsal root ganglia through the homonymous root contains sensory tracts.  It includes the core poster marginal, the gelatinous substance and the nucleus itself.
Asta intermediolateral: Only found in the thoracic and upper lumbar segments of the cord. It contains sympathetic preganglionic neurons.
Ventral horn: anterior horn is composed of motor axons of multipolar neurons.
Intermediate zone: contends the dorsal nucleus of Clarke and a large number of interneurons.
White matter
Posterior funiculus: ascending pathways are sensitive neurons whose bodies are found in the dorsal root ganglia and is involved in two modes of conscious proprioception: the kinesthetic (pressure and vibration) and discriminative touch or epicritic touch (differentiation of two points, pattern recognition). It consists of two components (being both pairs), the gracilis medially and immediately, the lateral cuneatus.

Having small motor fibers, which are responsible for reflex arcs, among the gracilis, is the issue lunate, and between the gracilis and cuneatus, is the issue septomarginal.
Lateral funiculus: Contains upstream and downstream channels.  The upstream are in charge of painful stimuli, temperature and touch, and consists of several bundles: the spinocerebellar; the spinothalamic; the espinoreticular and spinotectal.  Instead descending fibers are motor, and are responsible for voluntary movement control in the following installments: corticospinal; rubrospinal and reticulospinal.
Anterior funiculus: Contains upstream and downstream channels. The upstream are three issues, each responsible for different information: the spinotectal is responsible for reflex movements of eyes and head when it comes visual; espinoolivar sends information to the cerebellum of cutaneous sensation and ventral spinothalamic carries heavy touch and pressure.

The motor is responsible for movement control and booklets are as follows: medial reticulospinal, vestibulospinal and corticospinal.
Spinal cord injuries

Spinal cord injury has one or more of the following symptoms:
Paralysis of muscles of the trunk, neck and limbs;
Loss of sensation in the trunk, neck and extremities;
Disorders (uncontrollable) of urinary incontinence;
Blockade of the sympathetic system (hypotension, bradycardia, abdominal distension);
The degree of commitment depends on the degree of damage: it may be a complete injury (if you notice any symptoms, signs above) or an incomplete injury if it only presents some of the symptoms (e.g. paralysis partial and total);
Level of injury: The clinic is very important to know the affected spinal level;
Clinical Reference: The damage of the vertebrae ‘C4′ and ‘C7′ causes paralysis which includes all four limbs, the affectation of the ‘D11′ causes paralysis of the lower extremities.  To understand the level of injury and damage it must be taken into account the lag in development speed between the nervous system and skeletal system;
Pathology: The impact bone to be compressed at various roots of the spinal cord postural.  Good hygiene is necessary to prevent long-term complications, yet many of these disorders have a genetic basis or are caused by accidents which can turn difficult;
Treatment: when complete, required is surgical fixation of the spinal surgery which is performed by a skilled professional.  If the injury affects only the bone, surgery may be successful, if the nerve is damaged, or damaged in the intervention, it will be very important in the assessment of lack of self care and development, for a comprehensive plan of care (usually designed by nurses and other disciplines).
